Salary : Master Pay Scale Point 13 ($28,780 per month) to Master Pay Scale Point 16
($33,350 per month)
Entry Requirements : Candidates should have (a) a Certificate in civil engineering
studies from a Hong Kong polytechnic university/polytechnic, the Hong Kong Institute
of Vocational Education or technical institute/technical college, or equivalent; (b) at
least 3 years’ relevant post-qualification experience; (c) met the language proficiency
requirements of (i) Level 2 or above in English Language in the Hong Kong Diploma of
Secondary Education Examination (HKDSEE) or Hong Kong Certificate of Education
Examination (HKCEE), or equivalent [see Note (2)]; and (ii) Secondary 3 standard or
above in Chinese Language, or equivalent; and (d) a pass result in the Basic Law Test
[See Note (4)].
1. All qualifications and working experience required should be obtained on or before
the closing date for application.
2. For civil service appointment purpose, ‘Grade E’ in English Language (Syllabus B)
in the HKCEE before 2007 is accepted administratively as comparable to ‘Level 2’
in English Language in the 2007 HKCEE and henceforth.

A pass result in the Basic Law Test is an entry requirement for civil service jobs
requiring non-degree/non-professional qualifications at or above completion of
secondary education level. Only those candidates who have passed the Basic Law
Test will be considered for appointment. Attaining a score at or above 53 out of
the full mark of 100 (i.e. getting at least 8 out of 15 questions correct) will be
deemed to have a pass result in the Basic Law Test. The Basic Law Test result will
also constitute an appropriate weighting in a candidate’s overall assessment.
For candidates who have not taken the Basic Law Test or have not attained a pass
result in the Basic Law Test at the time of application, they may still apply for the
job and arrangements will be made for them to take the Basic Law Test during the
Duties : A Works Supervisor I (Civil) is mainly deployed on (a) assisting in site
supervision of more complicated civil and geotechnical engineering works, and
foundation and demolition works for sites under the Housing Authority’s purview; (b)
preparing site records; and (c) carrying out structural investigation with more difficult
nature and supervising site testings.
Terms of Appointment : A new recruit will normally be appointed on a 3-year civil
service agreement terms prior to consideration for appointment on the prevailing
